Analysing data Flashcards
What are the 4 types of data?
- Nominal
- Ordinal
- Interval
- Ratio
What is nominal data?
-A frequency count for distinct categories where something can only belong to 1 category. e.g. The number of smokers and non smokers
- It can be tallied
What is ordinal data?
- Where numbers can be placed in ascending or descending rank order. e.g. on a rating scale/ memory test
What is interval data?
- Measurements are taken from a scale where each unit is the same size and the gap between each unit is fixed and equal
If it’s a test of difference with independent measures and nominal data, what stats test should be used?
Chi square
If it’s a test of difference with independent measures and ordinal data, what stats test will be used?
Man Whitney
If it’s a test of difference with independent measures and interval data, what stats test will be used?
Unrelated T test
If it’s a test of difference with repeated measures and nominal data, what stats test will be used?
Sign test
If it’s a test of difference with repeated measures and ordinal data, what stats test will be used?
Wilcoxon test
If it’s a test of difference with repeated measures and interval data, what stats test will be used?
Related T test
If it’s a test of relationship with a correlational design and nominal data, what stats test will be used?
Chi square
If it’s a test of relationship with a correlational design and ordinal data, what stats test will be used?
Spearman’s Rho
If it’s a test of relationship with a correlational design and interval data, what stats test will be sued?
Pearson’s R
What are the 3 conditions of a sign test?
- Difference between 2 conditions
- Repeated measures
- Nominal data
