Anaesthetics Flashcards
IV anaesthetics example?
Propofol, ketamine
Mechanism of anaesthetics on inhibitory neurotransmitters?
most anaesthetics increase sensitivity to GABA or glycine -> more Cl- enters -> hyperpolarisation and decrease excitability
Anaesthetics- mechanism excitatory neurotransmitters?
Ketamine, Nitrous oxide and xenon block glutamate NMDA receptors -> decreased excitability
Anaesthetic ADRs?
CVS and resp depression (fluranes, propofol, opioids, benzos)
Malignant hyperthermia
Post-op cognitive dysfunction
Anaphylaxis
Fluranes ADRs?
Hypotension (decreased vascular resistance), increased ICP, arrythmias
Examples of inhalational anaesthetics?
Fluranes, N2O, xenon
Nitrous oxide- ADR?
Diffusion hypoxia- especially in resp compromised patients, give high flow oxygen after procedure to prevent it
