Q

Mechanism of anaesthetics on inhibitory neurotransmitters?

A

most anaesthetics increase sensitivity to GABA or glycine -> more Cl- enters -> hyperpolarisation and decrease excitability

Q

Anaesthetics- mechanism excitatory neurotransmitters?

A

Ketamine, Nitrous oxide and xenon block glutamate NMDA receptors -> decreased excitability
