Anaerobic Respiration Flashcards
What is the difference between aerobic and anaerobic respiration
Anaerobic doesn’t use oxygen aerobic does
Why does the breathing rate during exercise increase
As during exercise the muscles need more energy so the heart and breathing rate increase to provide cells with enough glucose and oxygen for respiration to increase however during a lot of respiration it’s not enough
What does our body do to meet the demand for energy
It starts to transfer energy from its chemical store in glucose by anaerobic respiration
What does anaerobic respiration do
It doesn’t require energy and lets our bodies transfer energy for a short period of time
What is the word equation for anaerobic respiration
Glucose -> lactic acid
Why do we use aerobic respiration more
1 produces more ATP and you get more as the glucose molecule is fully broken down
2 the lactic acid produced from anaerobic respiration can cause cramps and pain and stops the muscles contracting called FATIGUE
What is oxygen debt
The oxygen needed when you finish exercise and need oxygen to break down the left over lactic acid
What do plants and microorganisms produce when they do anaerobic respiration
Instead of lactic acid they ferment
Glucose -> ethanol + carbon dioxide
