Anaerobic & Aerobic Exercise Flashcards
1
Q
Anaerobic
A
Without oxygen
Examples: 100m sprint, long jump, shotput, javelin

Q
Aerobic exercise
A
- aerobic exercise is where you have enough oxygen in the body to supply the energy demands.
-these will normally be lower intensity when you can exercise for a long period of time
-this type of exercise improves the efficiency of the cardiovascular system and enables it to carry and use more oxygen
-this type of exercise can be improved by continuous training which should last between 20mins - 2 hours
-the intensity of the exercise should be between 60%-80% of the maximum heart rate (MHR)
We can calculate our MHR by the formula:
220- (your age) e.g 15 = 205

Q
Anaerobic exercise
A
- anaerobic exercise is when your body is working in the absence of oxygen
- this is normally for either quick speed or power
- this type of activity can only be carried out for a short period of time because it leads to a lack o oxygen and the build up of lactic acid
- anaerobic training involves high intensity work outs with rest periods in between
- we normally need more rest days between work outs when exercising anaerobically compared to aerobic ally
- to work out anaerobically we normally need to exercise with more than 85% of our MHR

With oxygen
Examples: jogging, walking, marathon, tour de France, 1509m swim (long distance/period)
