Anabolic Metabolism: Nuclei Acids and DNA Flashcards
1
Q
H-bonding in DNA + DNA binding proteins
A
Thymine-Adenine (2 H-bonds) (TA-TOO)
C-G (3 h bonds)
Histones are positively charged - associate with Negative DNA
Histones can be acetylated to make less positive - looser association with DNA
2
Q
DNA vs RNA
A
DNA has deoxy ribose (missing -OH on C2)
3
Q
Epigenetic Changes
A
Histone Acetylation - removes + charge from NH4 group to give more access to transcription
DNA methylation - turns gene on or off
4
Q
Deamination and Tautamerization
A
Deamination - point mutation that may occur which is not corrected before replication
causes: C-U, G-Xanthine, A-Hypoxanthine, T-doesnt deaminate
Tautomerization - causes bases to mismatch
A-T -> A-C
