An/aerobic and Photosynthesis Flashcards

1
Q

brewing beer

A

anaerobic - the yeast ferments into alcohol, and the other ingredients flavor the beer. Yeast, and other fungi are added to a sugar source.

Q

baking of bread

A

anaerobic - the yeast ferments in the dough creating alcohol that eventually evaporates from the heat of the oven. The large amounts if gluten (protein) cause bubbles of co2 to get trapped causing the bread to rise.

Q

aerobic

A
  1. glucose + 6 oxygen = 38 ATP + 6 water + 6 CO2

2. c6h12o6 + 6 o2 = 6 co2 + 6 h2o +38 ATP

Q

anaerobic

A
  1. glucose -goes into glycolysis- =lactic acid / ethonal
  2. glucose = ATP + pyruvic acid = lactic acid
  3. glucose = ethanol + co2

Q

what is lactic acid fermentation?

A

the lack of oxygen causes glucose to be broken down into pyruvic acid and only 2 ATP’s are formed

Q

what is oxygen debt?

A

heavy breathing after lots of exercise is to provide oxygen to convert the lactic acid to harmless compounds - the heavy breathing is said to mean they ave oxygen debt

Q

what is alcoholic fermentation?

A

glucose broken down into pyruvic acid, then breaks down further into ethanol and co2 and only 2 ATP’s re produced.
