Mhra Alert
Should avoid use with MABS due to risk of ventricular arrhythmia and heart block. If it must be used pt should be monitored for 48 hours
If given iv what needs to be monitored in addition to what is already monitored
ECG
Monitoring requirements and how often they should be monitored
Liver function- look out for signs e.g jaundice and monitor lft every 6 months
Signs of hypo and hyperthyroidism - monitor tsh before treatment and every 6 months
Hypokalaemia- monitor potassium
Chest X-ray
ECG with iv use
Warning signs associated
Corneal microdeposits: can effect vision especially driving at night for a few months
Hypo and hyperthyroidism
SOB- pneumonitis pulmonary toxicity
Neuro effects suxh as tremor, peripheral neuropathy
Phototoxic skin reaction e.g erthyma, skin discolouration- make sure pt stays out if direct light or wears wide spec suncream
Why can some of the side effects lasr for weeks and months
Due to long half life
Taking amiodarone and which drugs cause an increase in their plasma conc
Courcamins, dabigatran, digoxin, flecanide, phenidione, phenytoin
Increased risk of myopathy when given with which drug?
Simvastatin
Increased risk oc bradycardia wjen given with which drug
Beta blockers e.g diltiazem and verapamil
Increased tisk of ventricular arrhythmia and when given with
Levofloxacin, citalopram, haloperidol, escitalopram, lithium, quinies, phenothiazine, tricyclics
If a pt has gets hypothyroidism symptoms what can be done
If a pt gets hyperthyroidism symptoms wjat can be done
Stop if hyperthyroidism
If hypothyroidism give replacement therapy
Why does amiodarone cause thyroid problems
It contains iodine
