Ametropia Flashcards
Manifest hyperopia
amount of hyperopia found on subjective refraction
Latent hyperopia
remaining hyperopia found after cycloplegia
Manifest = +1.00D Cyclo'd = +2.00D Latent = +1.00D (2-1)
Absolute hyperopia
amount that cannot be overcome by accommodation
4D of hyperopia
1D of accommodation
Absolute = 3D
Facultative hyperopia
amount that can be overcome by accommodation
4D of hyperopia
1D of accommodation
Facultative = 1D
Latent hyperopies will have a LEAD or LAG in accommodation?
LAG.
Latent hyperopes have to accommodate at distance to account for uncorrected refractive eroror. Near would result in further accommodation and likely lag due to fatigue.
What is a NORMAL result for MEM?
+0.25 to +0.50D (represents a small lag)
What is an ABNORMAL result for MEM?
> +0.50D (large lag) or any minus (a lead)
With-the-rule astigmatism
Negative cyl on 180 axis
What add should be prescribed for the followign:
NRA: +3.50
PRA: -1.50
Add: +1.00
(PRA + NRA)/2 = ADD
Amplitude of accommodation
18.5 - 0.3(age)
If a patient says the green eye chart looks clearer than the red part of the chart - what needs to be tweaked for the Rx?
MORE PLUS!
RAM-GAP
Red add minus || Green add plus
What is the mohindra technique?
- pitch dark
- retinoscope
AGE:
<2 = -0.75D (assumes tonic of 1.25D)
<6 = -1D
>6 = -1.25D
