Came over to colonize, came for money and religious freedom. Jamestown was the British’s first successful attempt at colonization.

The vikings PLUNDERED or went through and took. They started in Norway and made their way around to acquire resources. They DID NOT try to colonize.
Prince Henry the Navigator
Was obsessed with exploration, Opened a navigation school in Portugal. Was trying to find a water route to the spices in India and colonized on the way.
Vasco de Gama
Went from Portugal to India back to Portugal. Went around India and placed flags down in the name of Portugal

Italian born but traveled in the name of Spain. Traveled for spices and a spice route to India but hit america, Brought back coconuts, tobacco, corn and potatoes to Spain.
Hernan Cortez
Traveled for Spain, Looking for El Durado, silver and gold, went to Mexico and almost wiped out the Aztecs. Used Viking mentality, and wasn’t trying to colonize.
Fransisco Pizzaro
Traveled for Spain, was looking for gold and silver in Chile and almost wiped out the Incas. Used Viking mentality, wasn’t trying to colonize.
Renaissance
Was one of the reasons for the Age of Exploration, It was the rebirth of Europe.
Reformation
One of the reasons for the Age of Exploration was that people wanted a relationship with god and not a church.
