Because there were so many men already fighting overseas.
What types of jobs did women have during WW2?

Who was “Rosie the Riveter”?
they were an image of a strong woman that was hard at work that were in a arms factory.
What was the WPB?
The War Production Board. They were people that put up posters around.
What was the purpose of the WPB?
Their posters were to express the urgency of the war.
How did the WPB encourage workers to produce more goods?
Seeing the posters, people would know how important tit was to help with the goods are for the war.
What is the system of rationing?
to give someone a fixed amount of something.
Why was rationing necessary?
because materials were becoming very scarce.
What types of goods were rationed during World War II?
gasoline, tires and shoes.
What was a Victory Garden?
a source of food that was grown at the home front.
Why did people grow them during WWII?
It became a household activity. The food would be sent to troops that were fighting.
About how much of the nation’s vegetables were produced by Victory Gardens?
There were nearly 20 million created.
How did the government encourage people to grow these gardens?
By using propaganda posters.
How did minorities’ role change during World War II?
It had others end up working along with African Americans in unity.

minorities were faced with the same amount of prejudice like before.
What are internment camps?
Internment camps were places that the Japanese Americans were kept under guard.
Why were Japanese Americans forced to live in these camps?
Because people thought that they were a security risk because of what happened to Pearl Harbor
What are Nisei?
They were Japanese Americans that were born in the United States.
What were conditions like at these camps?
The people were confined in small rooms and there was very little privacy for them.
Why did some people believe that internment camps were unconstitutional?
Because of racial reasons.
