A

Created by Stuart Hall, he explored how people make sense of media texts and claimed audiences were active not passive.
(An active audience engages, interprets, and responds
A passive audience accept messages with no challenge)

A negotiated reading is when the receiver accepts and rejects certain elements
An oppositional reading is when the receiver understands the preferred reading, but chooses to oppose it
