What were the main sources of income for the North and South of the USA?
- The North was industrial and manufactured lots of products in factories which were sold to make money.
- The South made their money from crops like cotton and tobacco grown on plantations. These were sold to the North and to other countries.

They didn’t want any more farms in America because the South was the main farming area and they didn’t want any competition

How did the Civil War affect the settlement of the West?
When the Southern states left the union it allowed the Northern states to pass the Homestead and Pacific Railroad Acts in the way that they wanted
Led to ex-slaves and ex-soldiers moving West in search of a new start
