What is individualism?
A value that places emphasis on self reliance and independence
What is equality of opportunity?
A belief that every American, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, religion, etc. deserves equal footing to go after life liberty, and the pursuit of happiness
What is free enterprise?
As a little government intervention in economy as possible
What is rule of law?
I believe that every citizen is equal under the law. No one has special privileges.
What is limited government?
A government who’s limits are well-defined, and his restrained through the separation of powers, in a system of checks and balances
Conservatives
Cherish establish institutions, and seek to preserve them for the good of society
Liberals
Push for new forms in order to make society more just and equitable
Individualism: conservatives
Conservatives value, self-centered, individualism -Emphasize the interests of the individual above the interests of society
Individualism: liberals
Liberals value, enlightened individual -Emphasize the interest of society above the interests of the individual
Equality of opportunity: conservatives
Conservatives believe in the power of meritocracy -Everyone races in America, based on their own toil and sweat
Equality of opportunity: liberals
Liberals agree with the idea of meritocracy with conditions -They believe not all groups store that climb in the same place
Free enterprise: conservatives
Conservatives want the government to stay out of their affairs of businesses and allow the free market, determine what’s best
Free enterprise: liberals
Liberals want the government to intervene with appropriate regulations to ensure safety and equality in the workspace
Rule of law: conservatives
Conservative, see the law’s themselves as embodying equality - emphasize the letter of law
Rule of law: liberals
The rules agree that laws embody equality with condition - emphasize the unequal application of loss in regards to minority groups
