GB runs out of funds - FDR makes lend lease act - lend arms that were vital to the defense of the us - keep GB fighting - us ‘lends’ 40 bil worth of weapons and vehicles to GB

Germans are shipping shipments going to GB - GB doesn’t have ships to stop them - us navy can’t help bc of neutrality acts - FDR makes HDZ - western half of Atlantic is neutral now and the US navy patrols is - Germany can’t sink ships there
Atlantic Charter
Aug. 1941 FDR and Churchill meet - agree on the Atlantic Charter - commits a post-war democracy - anti-axis nations signs - FDR pledges to force and incident - u-boat fires at a US destroyer - FDR orders a shoot on sight on u-boats - u-boats sink reuben James - 115 die
America Embargoes Japan
restricts sell of war materials to Japan - Japan is angry and joins the Axis - American freezes Japan assets in us and stops oil to Japan - FDR demands that they leave indochina and make peace with china in order to get their oil back
Pearl Harbor
Japan bombs Hawaii - US knows attack is coming but doesn’t know its in pearl harbor so its wide open - air and water attack - Dec. 7 1941 - 2,403 Americans die - FDR ask congress to declare war
Germany Declares War on the US
they don’t need to - not in Axis contract - annoyed with us navy attacks - Germany and Italy declare war on us - Dec. 11
