What is the First Amendment?
Congress shall make no laws prohibiting the freedom of speech, religion, assembly, or press.
What is the establishment clause of the First Amendment?
Forbids the government from establishing an official religion and preferring certain religions over others.
What is the Second Amendment?
The right for American Citizens to bear arms.
What is the third Amendment?
No soldier shall, in the time of peace be quartered in any house, without consent. In times of war, it has to be prescribed by law.
What is the Fourth Amendment?
Protects people from unreasonable searches and seizures by the government.
The Exclusionary Rule means what in the Fourth Amendment?
It means that evidence gained from unreasonable searches and seizures are not allowed to be used in court.
The Fifth Amendment states what?
A prohibition on double jeopardy, a right against forced self-incrimination, and that the government can’t take away your property without due process of law and compensation.
The Sixth Amendment states what?
The right to a lawyer, to know the crimes that are charged against you, the right to an impartial jury, the right to a fair and speedy trial.
The Seventh Amendment states what?
Civil Trials and Lawsuits have the right to a jury in federal court, and once that jury settles the case it cannot be overturned.
The Eighth Amendment states what?
Protects against excessive bail, excessive fines or cruel and unusual punishment.
The Ninth Amendment states what?
Rights that are not written in the Bill of Rights, are also given or may be retained.
What does the Tenth Amendment state?
Powers not degelated to the Federal Government, are given to the people and states
