ld Hardrada. Many of his men were killed and injured. They had to rush back to fight William and were very tired, therefore they didn’t fight to the best of their capability.
How did the domesday book, harrying of the north and castles help William maintain control over England?
Castles prevented rebels from attacking his men and areas of land. The harrying of the north used fear to control people by demolishing their crops and killing livestock. The domesday book provided William with enough money for the army and the country.
Why were there three contenders to the English throne?
William of Normandy was promised the throne and was related to the previous king. Harold Godwinson was a distant relative, English and also promised the crown. Harald hardrada was promised the throne by one of the very previous monarchs.
