What is Altitude training, and its aim?
Aims to improve endurance by exposing athletes to environments with low O2 levels & forcing the body to adapt by producing more RBC’s
Short term effects on the body?
First time at high altitude, the body faces a temporary decrease in performance due to low O2 availability
Long term effects on Body
Body has adjusted by increasing RBC’s, helps improve the ability to transport O2
Acclimatization effect on altitude training?
Body’s ability to adapt to lower O2 levels at altitude.
Increase RBC’s count, capillary density, myoglobin levels in muscles
Training methods effect on Altitude training?
Live High, Train Low !!
Live in high altitude to induce acclimatisation.
Train in low altitude to maintain intensity/ performance
