A
Caused by the effects of hypobaric hypoxia on CNS and pulmonary system resulting from unacclimatized ascending to altitude

Acute mountain sickness criteria
A
- several hours at new altitude
- presence of headache
- additional symptoms (fatigue, weakness, N\V)

High altitude pulmonary edema criteria (2)
A
Dyspnea at rest
Central cyanosis / audible crackles or wheezes

High altitude cerebral edema criteria
A
Presence of a change in me trap status or ataxia
