Altered Balance Flashcards
Clinical manifestations of metabolic acidosis “Luna week/d”<3
Anorexia, nausea, vomiting, weakness, lethargy, confusion, come, vasodilation, decreased heart rate, flushed skin
Lab results in M. Acidosis
Ph less man 7,35 and bicarb less than 24
Compensatory mechanisms in M. Acidosis
Increased breathing rate and depth, hyperkalenia and increased ammonia in the urine
Treatment for m. Acidosis
Replace fluid end electrolytes and correct the ph
Metabolic alkalosis
Increased ph by excess HCO3-
Decreased protons
increased bicarb ions
Loss of chlorine-ions
Symptoms of M. Alkalosis
Assymptomatic, hypokalemia, volume depletion
Laboratory results for m. Alkalosis
Pt greater than 7.4 5 and bicarb greater than 31
Treatments for m. Alkalosis
Address underlying cause, correcting Cl,+ potassium levels, replace fluid volume
AcideMia, acidosis clinical manifestations “abCvw”
Anorexia nausea vomiting
Bradycardia
depressed level of consciousness
Vasodilation
Weakness
Respiratory acidosis
Bicarb normal,
Co 2 is high >45
Oxygen is low
Ph is low
Hypoventilation
Nursing management for respiratory acidosis
Improve ventilation
Bronchodilators
Pulmonang hygiene
Adequate hydration
Basic alkalotic “ hac H”
Hydrogen acceptor
Central nervous system is stimulated
Associated with Hypokalemia
Respiratory alkalosis
Hyperventilation
Ph is high
Carbon dioxide is low below 35
Oxygen is high greater than 85
Bicarbis normal
Nursing management for respiratory alkalosis
Blow into a bag in order to reintroduce carbondioxide
Antianxiety medication
