ALP III Flashcards

1
Q

Describe, Rock and Roll’s development in the UK; how it drastically differed
from the “Rock” sociological movement and development in our country. Include
specifics and examples as to why.

A

US pop dominated the UK charts. A lot of British musicians thought their music wasn’t as good as American music. The Beatles and The Rolling Stones sort of changed that. A lot of hit records in the UK were invisible in the US. There wasn’t a lot of radio stations or record labels. This made it very difficult to keep an independent label afloat in the UK.
Most of what the British heard in terms of rock and roll were things coming to them through these sort of sanctioned sources, like the BBC, and major labels, constraining what was available.
