azathioprine
10
Q
Interaction between allopurinol and azathioprine
A
- AZA is metabolised to 6MP
- 6MP is metabolised by both xanthine oxidase and TPMT
- ALL inhibits xanthine oxidase
- so only TMPT can metabolise AZA (some patients have low/no TMPT)
- can become toxic
