Allergic Rhinitis (Immunology) Flashcards
What is hypersensitivity?
Excessive undesirable reaction produced by immune system in a presensitized patient divided into 4 types based on time and mechanism
Describe steps of type 1 HS
- Allergen phagocytosis
- AP
- Th0 to Th2
- Th2 IL 4 10 13
- Naive B cell to plasma cell
- IgE production
- IgE Fc to mast and basophil and Fab to antigen
- Degranulation of leukotrienes, PG and histamine
What does histamine do?
-VD
-Inc Permeability
-inc mucus
-bronchospasm
What do PG do?
Smooth muscle contraction
Increase in mucus
What does leukotriene?
Bronchospasm
What reactions are Abs mediated?
1, 2 and 3
What is type 1 HS?
IgE mediated
What is type 2 HS?
Antibody dependent cellular cytotoxicity
What is type 3 HS?
Immune complex deposition
Which is immediate which is delayed
1 and 4
What is type 4 HS?
T cell mediated
List the examples of type 1 Hs?
Systemic: anaphylactic shock
Local: AR or Hay fever
BA
Food allergy
Atopic dermatitis
Which drug causes all types of HS?
Pencillin
Describe severity of allergic rhinitis
Usually mild and seasonal unless accompanied by severe asthma, anaphylaxis or secondary infection necessitating hospitalization
Most common type of rhinitis ?
Allergic
