Under 2
Pregnant
Uncontrolled asthma
Recurrent sinusitis or otitis media
Uncontrolled thyroid disorder
Drug-induced (ASA, NSAIDs, alpha and beta blockers)
What are some red flags in allergic rhinitis?
Symptoms suggesting anaphylaxis
Shortness of breath or wheezing
Persistent headache, eye, or eye pain
Unilateral nasal symptoms
Child with moderate to severe symptoms
What symptoms are typical of allergic rhinitis?
Sneezing
Nasal congestion, rhinorrhea
Itchy nose, eyes, or throat
Duration over 7 days
What are some treatments for mild allergic rhinitis (less than 4 days/week)?
Saline
2nd gen antihistamines
If nasal congestion: decongestant
What are some treatment options for mild to severe allergic rhinitis?
Intranasal corticosteroid
When should a pharmacist follow up after prescribing an intranasal steroid?
In 2 weeks
