What is a gene ?
A section of DNA that codes for a particular type of protein
What do genes determine ?
The characteristics we go on to develop
What is an alleles ?
Different versions of the same gene
What does homozygous mean ?
2 of the same type of allele
What does heterozygous mean ?
2 Different alleles
What is the dominant gene ?
It is the type of allele that, when present, is expressed in the phenotype, masking the effect of the corresponding recessive allele.
What is the recessive gene ?
The recessive gene is a type of gene that is only shown in the phenotype when an someone has two copies (alleles) of that particular recessive allele
What is the genotype ?
A genotype is the specific combination of alleles an organism has for a particular gene, influencing its traits.
What is a phenotype ?
The characteristics you get from the genotype
