1868, NAs ceded some land, permanent frontier disregarded, Black hills, South Dakota became part of Sioux reservation

1862, gave farmers a 160 acre plot of land if they farmed it for five years, brought 20,000 colonists to the plains

Polygamy, herbal remedies, tribal laws, communal living, tribal chief powers

1887, divided reservation into allotments which were given to NAs, making them citizens, forced assimilation + farming, land ownership was not part of NA way of life

The land was unsuitable for farming and sold to whites

1903, court upheld the right of congress to revoke all treaties made with NAs, therefore take away more land

1924, enfranchised NAs, aimed for assimilation not political involvement, NAs did not want citizenship
