Great Awakening happened because of the decline of religion. Preachers in Massachusetts told their people to commit their selves to God. In result, many churches were formed. This led to tolerance of religion differences. Also, democratic ideas. People can govern how they want and worship God how they feel.

A belief that monarchs get their authority directly from God. Divine right comes from God. Then, goes to the ruler. The ruler states the rules to the people and people have to obey.

People form governments to protect their rights. Natural rights come from the people, the people’s rights come from God, then if the government violates the people’s rights, then the people can change their government or overthrow the king.

He was a French thinker that influenced American ideas. He argued that the powers of the government should be limited. In result, is the separation of powers, which is the division of powers for the government. Government has three branches; executive branch which enforces the laws, legislative branch which makes the laws, and judicial laws who make judgments based on the laws.

A

Separation of powers is the division of powers for the government. The government has three branches which are executive, legislative, and judicial. This is needed so that one single branch cannot get too powerful.

Why is land ownership important in Colonial America?

A

Land is important because you have the rights to vote with having land. Also you can run for political office. Another reason is that if you don’t have land, then you have to work for someone else without getting paid very much or getting paid at all. To grow crops, you need land and crops make money and food.

What is the difference between indentured servants and slaves?

A

Indentured servants had a contract to work for 4 to 10 years for anyone that could pay for their ocean passage to United States. Slaves had to work as long as the master told them to and they did not get paid. Also, slaves are trapped and indentured servants can be let free at some point.

What is salutary neglect?

A

Salutary neglect is where the British did not enforce trading laws. If not restrictions were placed on colonies, they would become wealthy. Colonists liked because they were left alone. So, they developed their own government and laws. Salutary neglect ended because the Colonists were making good money and the British wanted some of it. This lead to the American Revolution.
