Algebra theorems Flashcards
Fundamental theorem of algebra
every degree n has exactly n roots
irrational root theorem
f a polynomial has rational coefficients and a+b root c, and a-b root c, then a-b root c is also a root
complex conjugate root theorem
If a+bi is an imaginary root of a polynomial equation with real number coefficients, then a-bi is also a root.
Rational root theorem
If a polynomial has integer coefficients, then every rational root of polynomial equations can be written in the form m/n, where m is a factor of the constant, and n is a factor of the leading coefficient.
Binomial theorem
a formula that can be used to expand a two-term expression raised to any power. Using pascal’s triangle
