What are the seven easy rules?

A

1) when multiplying add powers.
2) when dividing subtract numbers.
3) when raising 1 power to another multiply them.
4) anything to power 1 just itself.
5) anything to power 0 just 1.
6) 1 to any power =s 1.
7) fractions apply power to both top + bottom.

What are the three tricky rules?

A

8) negative power flip other way up and make power positive.
9) fractional powers power 1/2=square root. Power 1/3=cube root. Power 1/4=fourth root.
10) two stage fractional powers split fraction into root + a power minus is square root forget to turn it upside down root first then power.

A

Thing outside bracket multiplies each separate term inside bracket.

A

What are the steps to factorising?

A

1) take out largest number that goes into all the terms.
2) each letter in turn take out highest power that goes into all the terms.
3) Open bracket + fill in all bits needed to reproduce each term.
4) check answer by multiplying out bracket + making sure matches original expression.
