Alex Reciprocating Engine Operation Flashcards
Reciprocating Engine Operation
Reciprocating Engine Operation - The basic process of converting chemical energy in fuel into mechanical energy occurs within the cylinders of the reciprocating engine. Essentially, a fuel/air mixture within the cylinder is compressed by a piston, then ignited. The ensuing combustion creates energy which is converted into work and transferred through a crankshaft to the propeller.
Reciprocating Engine Operation Process
Reciprocating Engine Operation Process - Movable pistons are attached to the crankshaft by connecting rods. The crankshaft and the connecting rods change back-and-forth motion of the pistons to rotary or turning motion which drives the propeller.
