Q

How much alcohol can the liver oxidize at a time

A

The liver can only oxidize 1/2 ounce of alcohol (equivalent
to about one drink) per hour

Which means until it can oxidize all the alcohol, it will just keep passing through the body via the bloodstream causing more intoxication. Even more so if the drinker is still drinking adding more alcohol into the body
