Management of Complicated Alcohol Withdrawal syndrome

A
  1. Stabilise the patient
  2. Fluids! Electrolytes! Vital Signs
  3. Vitamins = prevent/treat Wernicke’s
  4. Thiamine (parental) - 3 - 5 days
  5. Long acting BENZO
  6. Haloperidol or olanzapine - severely agitated patients with DTs or hallucinating
  7. Behavioral management

Reality orientation, maintenance of sleep-wake cycle, well-lit room during the day
