91.7 civil aircraft airworthiness

A

No person may operate a civil aircraft unless it is in an airworthy condition
The PIC is responsible for determining whether that aircraft is in a condition for safe flight
The PIC will discontinue the flight when an un-airworthy mechanical, electrical, or structural conditions occur

91.403 general maintenance

A

The owner or operator of an aircraft is primarily responsible for maintaining that aircraft in an airworthy condition
No person may perform maintenance, preventative maintenance, or alterations on an aircraft other than:
●Preventative maintenance
Part 43 appendix A
Must be a private pilot or higher, as owner or operator of aircraft

Airworthiness certificates and documents

A

•M: Manuals (any manuals for equipment that constitutes a supplemental type (GPS, Autopilot, etc.)
•M: Markings (Placards and markings required in the POH)
•M: Minimum equipment list (if applicable)
•A: Airworthiness certificate
•R: Federal registration
•R: State registration/FCC radio license
•O: Operating limitations of the aircraft
•W: Current weight and balance

What makes an airworthiness certificate valid

A

●“Effective as long as the maintenance, preventative maintenance, and alterations are performed in accordance with Parts 21, 43, and 91 of the FARs, as appropriate, and the aircraft is registered in the United States”
●All required inspections are complied with

●Preflight inspection done by the PIC
●Required equipment is operable

100 hour inspection

A

●Required if carrying passengers for hire, or flight instruction is given, for hire.
●When can this be over flown?
Only within 10 hours over and only to get the aircraft to a place where repairs can be accomplished.
●An annual can be done and documented in place of a 100 hour inspection.

Phase inspections

A

Phase inspections – replace 100 hr. & Annual
•The four-phase inspection cycle must be complete every 12 months
•60 hrs. between phase inspections
•ELT inspections
•Pitot/Static Inspections
•Purpose of phase inspections
•Allows less maintenance time for each individual inspection.
•The entire aircraft is inspected but concentrate only on a portion of the aircraft

Depends upon the state
Some require a certificate and/or sticker
Comparable to registering a boat or car
●Arizona aircraft registrations looks just like the one in your car.
The paper portion is located in the dispatch book and the sticker is located in the door frame of the aircraft. (UND)
Normally good for 1 year.
