Airway Flashcards
Anaerobic respiration is a disadvantage, why?
- Low amount of ATP
- Production of Lactic Acid
Why PH change is bad?
Bc it causes different ionization of the enzymes -> change in shape-> change in fnxn
O2 sat in 1 dL of blood
20.1 mL/ dL of blood
What are the oxygen reservoirs?
- 75% saturated Hb in mixed venous blood
- O2 in lung ( dead space , FRC)
- O2 in cytoplasm ( neglected)
Mitochondria becomes in danger when the pressure of O2 becomes:
< 3 mmHg
What is the max pressure we can inflate and why?
20 cm H2O in order not to inflate the stomach :
1. Fear of regurgitation & aspiration
2. Distends diaphragm and not contracting
What is the m/c cause of airway obstruction in comatosed pts
Losing muscle tone of the tongue and falling back against the pst. Pharyngeal wall
What do we start with when seeing a comatosed pt?
Shouting at him and shaking him gently
Give me 2 common coma causes
- Pickwickian syndrome ( Obesity-hypo ventilation )
- Morphin overdose
How much is the diameter of the connectors?
15 mm
Importance of Murphy’s eye:
Allow gas flow even if main opening is obstructed
