Classification of class A airspace
Southern control airspace FL180 to FL600 Northern control airspace FL230 to fl600 Arctic control airspace FL270 to fl600
Class B airspace
IFR and CVFR
controlled airspace 12,500 ASL to 17,999 ASL
clearance required
Class C airspace
Controlled airspace around designated airports IFR require clearance VFR can’t enter without clearance IFR separation, VFR traffic info Mode C transponder Class C reverts to Class E when no ATC
Class D Airspace
Controlled airspace around designated airports
IFR and VFR permitted but VFR must establish contact prior entry
IFR separation, VFR traffic info
Class E airspace
VFR no requirement when NOT a control zone
IFR need clearance
When towered airport class C or D closes, then airport is Class E controlled
Class E controlled
VFR must follow MF
VFR must get traffic advisory 5 min prior to entering
Class F airspace
IFR not permitted unless pilot has obtained prior permission
Restricted: (CYR)
Can enter only by prior permission only
Advisory: (CYA)
VFR may fly through but not encouraged
