Airports & Facilities Flashcards
Runway length
Runways less than 2,200m will not be approved for EFA CAT II/III operations.
Runway Width
Runways with a width less than 45m will not be approved for EFA CAT II/III operations.
High Intensity Runway Edge Lights (HIRL)
Spaced at intervals of no more than 60m
Amber replaces white on the last 600m or half of the runway length, whichever is less.
Runway Centreline Lights (RCLL)
- CAT II – 7.5m, 15m or 30m,
- CAT III – 7.5m or 15m.
-
variable intensity white lights from the threshold to 900m from
the runway end. - **alternate red and variable intensity white lights **from 900m to 300m from the runway end
- red lights 300m from the runway end.

- CAT III – 7.5m or 15m.
-
variable intensity white lights from the threshold to 900m from
the runway end. - **alternate red and variable intensity white lights **from 900m to 300m from the runway end
- red lights 300m from the runway end.
TDZ
Runway TDZ lights are a specific requirement for CAT II/III approaches. They extend from the threshold for a longitudinal distance of 900m (full TDZ) but do not extend beyond the mid-point if runway length is less than 1,800m.
The lateral spacing (or gauge) between the lights is not less than 18m and no more than 22.5m with a preference of 18m.
The longitudinal spacing between pairs of barrettes is 60m or 30m, but it
is recommended to have a spacing of 30m for LVO.
