What grades of fuel can be safely used?
100 (green)
100LL (blue)
What is min. and max. oil capacity?
Min: 6 quartz
Max: 8 quartz
What can you expect if you apply carb heat after experiencing carb ice?
The RPM will slightly decrease more than what it has already decreased due to the carb ice, but with time there should be an improvement in RPM.
Under what circumstances can a spin occur in your training aircraft?
A spin occurs when the airplane stalls in uncoordinated flight. If the aircraft stall, but is in coordinated flight a spin is less likely. To maintain coordinated flight, the ball in the turn coordinator must remain in the center.
Describe the changes in Vg and Va with changes in the gross weight of an aircraft.
Glide Speed and Maneuvering speed Increase with weight. Vg = 95 -> 99 KIAS Va = 110 -> 130 KIAS
What flap settings should be used in your training airplane for the following operations?
Takeoff: Normal, Short Field, Soft Field
Landing: Normal, Short Field, Soft Field
Takeoff: Normal: 50%, Short Field: %50, Soft: %50
Landing: Normal: 100%, Short Field: 100%, Short Field %100
If during a flight, you experience carburetor ice and full carburetor heat is applied, what changes in engine performance would you expect?
Degraded Performance as water is mixed with fuel, then regular performance.
Under what circumstances could a spin occur in your training aircraft?
A spin is an aggravated stall, which occurs at critical AOA. (16 - 18 degrees above flight path)
Describe the spin recovery procedures for your training aircraft.
SR20 - Pull the chute.
Other: PARED
P - Retard the throttle to idle. In most aircraft, power hampers the recovery.
A - Ailerons neutral. Many pilots will attempt to recover from the spin using the ailerons. This may actually make the problem worse.
R - Apply full opposite rudder. Apply rudder opposite the rotation of the spin. If you have trouble determining which way the airplane is spinning, look at your turn coordinator or turn needle. It will indicate the direction of rotation.
E - Apply forward elevator. Immediately after applying opposite rudder, apply a quick forward motion on the control yoke and hold anti-spin controls until the aircraft starts to recover.
D - Recover from the dive. Once you have completed the four previous steps, and the rotation stops, recover from the dive. The descent rate may be over 5000 feet per minute and the airspeed will rapidly exceed redline. Remember to neutralize the rudder after the rotation stops.
What is the stall speed of your training airplane in a 60 degree bank with flaps up?
60 degree bank increases stall speed 41% due to relationship to square root of load factor. (Vertical Lift is being traded for Horizontal Bank) Vso = 61 KIAS x 1.41 = 86 KIAS.
