Aircraft Miscellaneous System Flashcards
What type of extinguisher is used for engine compartment and what are the precautions taken?
Methyl Bromide (MB) fire extinguishers are used in the engine compartment. MB is very toxic and thus not to be used in the vicinity of aircrews.
What type of extinguisher is used for wheel bay fires and why it is not used in engine compartment
Dry Powder/Chemical fire extinguishers are commonly used for wheel bay fires. It is not used in the engine compartment as it creates a mess.
Where are the fire extinguishers located?
Hand-Held fire extinguishers are placed in the cockpit and cabin. The remaining areas have cockpit-controlled fire fighting systems.
Two types of fire detectors (2)
Continuous & Discrete/Unit.
Discrete/Unit-type fire detectors are individually selected to warn of different temperatures for different locations (3)
Melting link detector - Detector melt, not reset-able
Thermocouple detector - Generation of an electrical signal
Differential expansion switch - Metallic strip bend to make electrical contact [uses dissimilar metals to close electrical contact when heated]
What is the main purpose of using the Quill Shaft in the Airframe Mounted Accessory Drive [AMAD] Gearbox?
They are meant to protect driven components and gearbox in the event of overload.
