What is the definition of night?
When the centre of the sun is more than 6° below the horizon. Period between the end of evening civil twilight and the beginning of morning civil twilight
What aircraft lighting is required at night?
Red Light - Left wing (110° and 2 miles)
Green Light - Right wing (110° and 2 miles)
White Light - Tail (140° and 2 miles)
Anti-Collision Beacon - Visible 360° and 30° above and below
Minimum altitude above built up areas?
1000’ above highest obstacle and 2000’ radius
Minimum altitude above non-built up areas?
500’ above the highest obstacle and 500’ radius
Minimum altitude overflying an aerodrome
2000’ AAE (1000’ above the circuit)
How do you overtake an aircraft?
By passing on the right
Two aircraft are converging, which one has the right of way?
The aircraft on the right, has the right of way. The aircraft on the left must give way (cede)
A landing aircraft must….
Give way to any aircraft or vehicles on the ground
Two aircraft are on approach, which one has the right of way?
The lower aircraft has the right of way. The higher aircraft must give way (cede)

- Balloons
- Gliders
- Airships
- Power-Driven Aircraft Towing

Weather Minima for Controlled Airspace
500’ vertically from cloud, 1SM horizontally from cloud, 3SM visibility, 500’ above ground in a control zone
Weather Minima for Uncontrolled Airspace (below 1000’ AGL)
Clear of cloud, 2SM (day) or 3SM (night) visibility
Weather Minima for Uncontrolled Airspace (above 1000’ AGL)
500’ vertically from cloud, 2000’ horizontally from cloud, 1SM (day) or 3SM (night) visibility
What are VFR Cruising Altitudes?
Used above 3000’ AGL. Easterly headings fly odd thousands +500’. Westerly headings fly even thousands +500’. Magnetic track in the SDA, true track in the NDA
