AIR OPS Flashcards
Aircraft categories ?
VAT = A<91kt B<120kt C<140kt D<165kt
Aircraft performance class ?
A = All Jet engine + Turboprop >10PAX or >5700kg B = Turboprop and Piston <10PAX or <5700kg C = Piston >10PAX or >5700kg
Mandatory documents to be carried on board ?
AFM, CoR, CofA, AOC, Noise, Radio, Insurance, CRM, MEL, Charts, FPL, Tech log, PAX manifest, M&B
Detail of fuel planning ?
TTRAACE = Taxi Trip Reserve Additional Alternate Contingency Extra
- Final reserve = 45’ for reciprocating, 30’ for jet
- Contingency = 5% of trip fuel, 3% if ERA or 5’ holding dest at 1500ft
- Alternate = MAPt at DEST to landing at ALTN. If 2 ALTN take the greater of both
- Additional:
; if no DEST ATLN: 15’ holding at 1500ft above destination ISA
; emergency descendent following engine failure or depressurisation to an ATLN + 15’ hold + APCH, except if TRAC is sufficient for such event
When is AD considered accessible/suitable ?
When AD is adequate + weather above minima
What makes AD adequate ?
ATS*, RFFS**, lights, radio, RNAV, equipment …
- mandatory in CAT
- *minimum lvl 3, 1 degradation allowed
When is AD considered isolated ?
When Reserve+ALTN fuel to reach adequate ALTN AD is:
- for jet >2h of cruise consumption
- for prop >2h of cruise or 45min+15% of cruise time
Is T/O ALTN required ?
TALT required when DEP AD not accessible because of MTO or PERF.
- For twin-engine not further than 1h OEI or ETOPS diversion time but maximum 2h
- For 3, 4 engines 2h OEI
When is DEST ALTN AD not required ?
(6 2 525)
Flight time below 6h
2 separate and adequate runway at destination
MTO +/- 1h ETA = visibility >5km + ceiling >2000ft or CTL+500ft
When is 2nd DEST ALTN required ?
When +/- 1h ETA weather is below minima or no weather information at DEST
Planning minima for T/O ALTN ?
If PA = PA visibility only
NPA = NPA visibility and ceiling
Circling = Circling
Less than 1h OEI for 2 engines
Planning minima for DEST ?
If PA = PA visibility only
NPA = NPA visibility and ceiling
Circling = Circling
Planning minima for DEST ALTN ?
If PA = NPA visibility and ceiling
NPA = NPA visibility+1000m and ceiling+200ft
Circling = Circling
When should an IFR flight be commenced ?
When DEST or one DEST ALTN is above planning minima
When can an IFR approach be commenced ?
It can always be commenced regardless of RVR, ceiling is never limiting
Until where can an APCH be continued without minima ?
- Not below 1000ft AAL without the RVR
- Not after FAP (if DA>1000ft AAL)
(ceiling is not limiting)
Until where can an APCH be continued without visual contact ?
- On PA, until DA/H
- NPA CDFA, until DA = MDA+20,30,40,60ft
- On NPA, until MAPt or MDA then MAPt
What if RVR goes below minima after passing “the APCH door” ?
You can continue the APCH
What is the minimum RVR on LDG when not LVO approved ?
750m
800m for SPO
Which RVR is controlling ?
Threshold RVR.
Minimum RVR mid >125m, end >75m
When and how can CMV be applied ?
- Conversation allowed only for APCH with minima >800m when no RVR available
- CMV = mto visibility * 1.5 (by day with HIALS+HIRL or night ALS) or 2.0 (by night with HIALS+HIRL)
What is the height for stabilisation height ?
1000ft AAL and never below 500ft AAL
Can you accept a direct to FAF during PBN APCH ?
No, but direct to IF can be accepted given at least 2 NM before FAF
What would you do if LPV fails during final ?
- If below 1000ft AAL, proceed missed approach if no visual
- If above 1000ft AAL, degradation to LNAV if on the same chart or conventional
Minimum required RVR for visual approach ?
800m
Circling minima ?
CatA = 1500m 400ft CatB = 1600m 500ft CatC = 2400m 600ft CatD = 3600m 700ft
What should be kept insight during CTL and VPT ?
- CTL runway
- VPT ground
Wake turbulence categories ?
L < 7 000kg < M <136 000kg < H
When is RVR reported ?
Visibility < 1500m
