Air Conditioning Flashcards
Explain basic temperature regulation.
In basic temperature regulation, the air conditioning system controllers set the packs of the lowest demanded temperature. The air conditioning system controllers compute demand by comparing the actual temperature and the selected temperature.
The actual temp is measured by sensors
:- in the cockpit for cockpit zone,
:- in the lavatory extraction circuit and galley ventilation system for the cabin
Explain optimized temperature regulation
The air conditioning system controller optimizes temperature by acting on the trim air valves. The temperature selection ranges from 18°C to 30°C
How many lanes does the air conditioning system controller have
2, One lane actively controls the system and the other takes over full control in case of an active lane failure
In which position does the pack flow selector give high flow regardless of the actual position of the knob
In single pack operations
When the APU is supplying bleed air
What happens to the ram air inlet during takeoff and landing?
During takeoff, when takeoff power is set and the main landing gears struts are compressed, the Ram air inlet valve closes.
During landing, once the main landing gear struts compress and the speed is above 70 kts the ram air inlet valve closes.
The ram air inlet valves open again 20 seconds after speed is below 70kts.
Which air conditioning system controller controls the hot air regulating valve?
1
When does the emergency RAM air valve open?
When the ram air push button is pressed ON, the ram air inlet opens and the outflow valve opens to 50% if it is not under manual control and delta P is lesser than one.
If Delta P is greater than 1, the ram air inlet door will open however the check valve downstream of it will remain shut, no fresh air will be provided
How is it ensured that Icing does not occur within the pack?
A water separator system dries the air before it enters the turbine section.
Is the operation of the packs dependent on each other?
No they are independent and operate automatically.
When does the hot air FAULT push button light come on?
DUCT OVERHEAT, DUCT TEMP REACHES 88 degrees Celsius.
The fault light comes on in amber along with an associated ECAM caution when DUCT OVERHEAT is detected.
The fault circuit detects an overheat when the duct temperature reaches 88°C once.
The valve and trim air valve close automatically, the FAULT light goes off when the temperature drops below 70°C and the flight crew selects off.
When does the pack flow control valve not open?
Upstream pressure below minimum
compressor outlet overheat
engine start sequence
Fire push button of the engine on the related side is pressed
Ditching is selected
What is the maximum temperature before showing Amber on the bleed page for:-
i)Compressor outlet
ii)Pack outlet
i)260 celcius
ii)90 celcius
At what temperature does the zone duct temperature show Amber on the Conditioning page?
80°C
On the cabin pressurization page, when does the pack indication show as amber?
When the associated pack flow control valve is closed With associated engine running
