Q

Fractional distillation of air instructions

A
  1. Air is filtered to remove dust and then it is cooled
  2. Water is now in the liquid state
  3. Water vapor + carbon dioxide freeze and are removed using absorbent filters
  4. Noble gases still at gaseous state
  5. The liquid mixture is passed into the bottom of a fractionating column
  6. Oxygen liquifies at 183 and Nitrogen - 196
  7. Nitrogen vaporizes first and is collected as it rises in the gaseous state
  8. Liquid O2 is removed from bottom of column
