Air And Oxygen Flashcards
What gases are in the air?
Oxygen Molecule gas Nitrogen Carbon dioxide Helium Krypton Neon Hydrogen
What percentage of oxygen is in the air?
21%
What are the uses for oxygen in the air
The gas we breath. Without, we will die. Have to have it to survive.
What are the uses for nitrogen in the air
4/5 of air we breath. I reactive. Breath in and out and no change.
What are the uses for carbon dioxide in the air
Created a protective atmosphere. Enables microorganisms to stay away from our food for a little longer.
What percentage of nitrogen is in the air
78%
What percentage of carbon dioxide is in the air?
21%
Fire triangle at are the 3 sides?
Oxygen, heat and fuel
What would happen if one of the 3 sides of the fire triangle wasn’t in the system and why
The fire will go out! It cannot continue without 1 of the sides.
What do the firefighters use to put out 1 of the sides of the triangle
Fire extinguishers, blankets and fire buckets help to put one of the sides out.
What are the different types of oxides?
Acidic, basic, neutral, amphoteric
What are acidic
These are usually oxides of non metals.
E.g, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide, etc.
What are basics
These are usually oxides of metals.
E.g, calcium oxide, magnesium oxide, etc.
What are neutrals?
A few oxides are neither acidic nor basic. E.g, water.
What are amphoterics?
The oxides of a few metals can behave both as acids and bases.
E.g, zinc oxides aluminium oxide, etc.
