What is an aim?
A straightforward expression, identifying the purpose of an investigation.
What is a hypothesis?
A precise,testable statement of what the researcher predicts will be the outcome of a study.
Possible relationships between two variables.
What is an experimental hypothesis?
A hypothesis used in the context of an experiment which predicts a different/relationship between two variables.
What is a directional hypothesis?
Hypothesis which states the expected direction of the results.
E.g. adults WILL recall more words than children.
What is a non-directional hypothesis?
Hypothesis which states an expected difference, but does not state the direction of the results.
E.g. “there will be a difference”
What is a null hypothesis?
Hypothesis that predicts no difference between two variables.
