Aims And Hypotheses Flashcards
What is an aim?
A general statement of what the researcher intends to investigate, the purpose of the study
What is a hypothesis?
A specific and testable statement where the researcher predicts what will happen between the variables
What should an aim start with?
To investigate…
What is a directional hypothesis also called?
One tailed
What does the researcher do in a directional hypothesis?
Predict the direction they think the results will go in, the difference they expect to find between the two conditions/ co variables.
What is a non directional hypothesis also called?
Two tailed
What dos the researcher do in a non directional hypothesis?
Do not predict the direction they think the results say, just that there’s a difference
What word will always be used in a hypothesis?
Significant
What is a null hypothesis?
States the results were gained due to change and not the independent variable that the researcher changed/ manipulated
When should you use a directional hypothesis?
If there’s previous research that states the direction
When should you use a non directional hypothesis?
When its a new area of research or no previous research is outlined
What are the 3 types of hypothesis
Directional
Non directional
Null
Which hypothesis will you never be asked to write in the exam?
Null
