A
  • Brief the IC on current strategies when handing over control
  • Establish Safety Officers, Sectors, Staging, BA Entry and allocate resources to enable safe work practices to be implemented
  • Manage all activities undertaken to resolve incident
  • Implement Operations component of IAP
  • Implement process for briefing personnel (SMEACS)
  • Provide regular reports to IC
  • Identify new and emerging risks, manage and communicate these to IC

  • Ensure effective communications (Comms Plan)

A
  • Establish area and communications with OO
  • Collect roll board from all appliances and senior operational staff on scene
  • Ensure rapid deployment as requested by OO/OIC
  • When directed, maintain a reserve of two(2) pumper and crew

Breathing Apparatus Officer (BAO)

A
  • Liaise with the IC and OO on BA strategies and tactics and send periodic reports to tht IMT
  • Supervise BA Service, entry points and ll BA requirements
  • Set up the Emergency Signal Unit (ESU)
  • Ensure adequate number of personnel are dressed in BA as reliefs including 2 for emergency purposes
  • Liaise with BA Entry,BA Service

Decontamination Officer

A
  • Ensure that appropriate decontamination procedure is established with regards to hazardous materials
  • Ensure Hot, Warm and Cold zones are established and identified
  • Decontaminate all equipment, vehicles, crews and other agency reps
  • Control movement of personnel in designated areas

Duties of Safety Officer

A
  • Preferably hold the rak of SO or above and report to IC
  • Check general structural safety
  • Ensure appropriate PPE is used
  • Ensure appropriate processes employed (HAZMAT, Decon, High Rise)
  • Ensure appropriate BA processes employed (relief crews / tallies)
  • Communicate risks/problems immediately to OO and/or IC
  • Ensure injuries reported and followed up
  • IC may allocate more than one Safety Officer depending on incident complexity
