AIDS is caused by the Human Immuno deficiency virus or HIV.
HIV belongs to retroviruses.
It has an RNA genome surrounded by a protein coat.

  1. Unprotected sexual intercourse with infected person.
  2. By transfusion of contaminated blood or blood products.
  3. By sharing infected needles as in case of intravenous drug abusers.
  4. From infected mother to child through the placenta.

A

No it spreads only through body fluids.
It is hence imperative for the physical and psychological well being that HIV or AIDS patients are not kept away from their home.

A

No there is always a time lag between the infection and appearence of AIDS symptoms.

This period may vary from a few months to many years

A

It first enters the macrophage.

It forms ds viral DNA by reverse transcription of its RNA genome .

The dsDNA attaches to normal cell genome.
It makes normal cell produce viral genome.

The macrophage acts as the viral factory.
