Aid can include….
Skilled people, equipment, food, projects, emergency assistance and money
Aid?
Given by richer countries to poorer countries, either to help with an emergency or encourage long term development
Donor country?
Country giving aid
Recipient country?
Country receiving aid
Short term aid?
Given to relieve a disaster situation (eg. People homeless and starving after severe flood), helps save lives - emergency!
Long term aid?
Given over a significant period, which aims to promote economic development (eg. Sewage systems, water taps). It is sustainable!
Bi lateral aid?
Is given from one government to another, only involves 2 countries
+ Receiving aid, trade, help, development of trade links
- Not always recipient country who is better off, donor benefits (eg. Land rovers in Tanzania)
Multilateral aid?
Is where governments give money to international organisations (EU), then redistribute to development projects at lesser stages of development
- India, aid to people but money on space
NGOs?
Non-Government Organisations
Charities, donors rely on donations, wills or selling clothes/items tax free.
Eg. Oxfam, water aid, comic relief
