Aid that helps immediate issues. Brings urgent relief to people in desperate situations. Aka HUMANITARIAN AID
Aid definition
Lending assistance to countries or communities who are in need
Long term aid
Has less immediate goals. Seeks to improve overall level of development of the country. Aka DEVELOPMENT AID
Examples of short term aid
Rescue workers Refugee camp Emergency services Food parcels Blankets and tents.
Examples of long term aid
Modernising farming Building a dam Improving water supply Setting up fairtrade Training local people
Advantages of aid
Saves lives in an emergency
Medical care and cure is provided
Peoples lives made easier
People can learn skills and get an education➡️leads to better jobs.
Disadvantages of aid
Aid may not reach the people who need it most
The aid sent may not be suitable
People can become to reliant on aid
Governments can be corrupt and use the money to fund their own initiative and ventures.
Bi-Lateral Aid
One country giving aid DIRECTLY to another (Bi-two)
Multi-lateral aid
Many countries giving Money/aid to a central agency (eg. World bank) who then distribute it to many places.
