rapid provision of resources to ppl/countries in immediate distress to relieve suffering during and after a disaster
bilateral AID
AID is given by the gov. of one country to another countries gov.
often in the form of money
multilateral AID
AID is provided through an international organisation e.g. UN, WHO by combining donations from a number of countries and then distributing funds to countries in need
non-gov AID
- non-profit organizations that operate separately from governments (however some obtain funding) and provide AID not usually in the form of money but instead in comm. based projects
purpose of emergency AID
- emergency; to keep ppl alive and respond to the most urgent needs of ppl by providing essential resources
purpose of bilateral AID
to help reduce poverty and bring about long-term sustainable development by helping govs. to strengthen their economic, political, health and education systems, thus eventually become self-sufficient
purpose of mutlilateral AID
to contribute to the achievement of equity in H+WB and promote human development
