AIC Act 3 Quotes Flashcards
Mrs Birling: “You’re not
that type - “
Eric: “I was in that state
when a chap easily turns nasty.”
Inspector: “Just used her… as if she
was an animal, a thing, not a person.”
Eric: “You’re not the kind of father
a chap could go to when he’s in trouble.”
Eric: “The girl’s dead and we all
helped to kill her and that’s what matters.”
Inspector: “One Eva Smith has gone - but there are millions and millions and millions of Eva Smiths and John Smiths still left with us… We don’t live alone. We are members of one body.
We are responsible for each other. And I tell you that the time will soon come when, if men will not learn that lesson, then they will be taught it in fire and blood and anguish. Good night.”
Birling: [angrily to Eric]: “You’re the one
I blame for this.”
Eric [to Mr Birling]: “What does it matter now whether
they give you a knighthood or not.”
Eric [to Mr Birling]: “I’m ashamed
of you as well - “.
Eric [to everyone]: “He was our police
inspector all right.”
Birling: “That man wasn’t
a police officer.”
Sheila: “I suppose we’re
all nice people now.”
Sheila: “Don’t interefere
please, Father.”
Sheila: “I remember what he said, how he
looked, and what he made me feel.”
Eric: “The fact remains that I did what I did…
And the rest of you did what you did to her.”
Gerald: “Everything’s all right now,
Sheila. What about this ring?”
Sheila: “You and I aren’t the same
people who sat down to dinner.”
Birling [to Eric and Sheila]: “Now look at the pair of them - the famous younger generation who
know it all. And they can’t even take a joke - “
Birling: “That was the police. A girl has just died - on her way to the Infirmary -
after swallowing some disinfectant. And a police inspector is on his way here - to ask some - questions.”
